 increased public awareness around the prevalence\, impact\, and salience o
 f sex trafficking\, human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. 
 When allegations of trafficking and exploitation are made known to law enf
 orcement and social services\, the forensic interview process can be an ef
 fective tool for gathering victim statements and assessing what has occurr
 ed. This training will discuss the specifics of working with victims of tr
 afficking and exploitation and offer guidance for conducting forensic inte
 rviews with this population.\nLearning Objectives\n1. Discuss the prevalen
 ce\, dynamics and realities of human trafficking and commercial sexual exp
 loitation.\n\n2. Provide techniques and strategies for effectively intervi
 ewing victims of trafficking and exploitation\, through sample language an
 d case examples.\n\n3. Offer guidance on how the MDT can best serve victim
 s of trafficking and exploitation.\n\nRita Farrell is the Director of Chil
 d First\n\nRita Farrell has over 20 years of experience working with child
  abuse investigations as a forensic interviewer and founding executive dir
 ector of a child advocacy center. In her role as a forensic  interview spe
 cialist and trainer for Zero Abuse Project\, Rita admits that her role as 
 a forensic  interviewer of child abuse victims is her “true passion.” \n\n
 After graduating from Ball State University with a degree in secondary edu
 cation\, Rita began teaching in secondary and post-secondary classrooms. W
 hile raising her two sons in Fishers\, IN\, Rita held various leadership p
 ositions throughout the community. In July 2000\, Rita undertook the chall
 enge of opening Chaucie’s Place\, a child advocacy center in Hamilton Coun
 ty\, IN. The combination of her roles as executive director and forensic i
 nterviewer naturally led Rita to become involved with state and national o
 rganizations in the field of child abuse.\n\nRita serves as the Director\,
  ChildFirst® for Zero Abuse Project\,  managing the national ChildFirst® F
 orensic Interview Training program. In addition\, she manages the developm
 ent of advanced training courses and programs for forensic interviewers an
 d investigators as well as the ChildFirst® Arkansas state program. She is 
 the co-author of the ChildFirst® Forensic Interview Protocol and has condu
 cted more than 2\,500 child interviews.  \n\nRita is a certified law enfor
 cement instructor and still conducts forensic interviews in the field. She
  has testified in numerous court cases and has authored many peer-reviewed
  articles specific to child abuse investigations and forensic interviewing
  of child abuse victims. As a national speaker\, Rita continues to champio
 n the cause of child advocacy and forensic interviewing. Rita serves as a 
 board member for the Indiana Coalition of Child Advocacy Centers. She is a
  member of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APS
 AC) and co-chairperson for the APSAC forensic interviewing committee.  Rit
 a serves on numerous councils\, task forces\, and boards in the areas of c
 hild abuse and domestic violence. Rita was presented with the U.S. Attorne
 y General’s award for “Outstanding Service to Victims of Crime” by the U.S
 . Attorney General of Indiana and is also the recipient of the “Champion f
 or  Children” award.
