Understanding Preferential Child Sex Offender

Idaho Network of Children's Advocacy Center's one-hour lunch and learn training sessions are free and offered to anyone in the state of Idaho who works in child serving professions.

Speaker - Adrienne Isom, FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit

Speaker's Bio:

Supervisory Special Agent Adrienne Isom is a member of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit where she has been assigned for more than 10 years. In this capacity, SSA Isom provides operational support to local, state, Federal and international law enforcement agencies investigating crimes committed against child victims and conducts research regarding offenders who sexually exploit children and those responsible for the abduction/murder of a child. Prior to joining the BAU, SSA Isom was assigned to the FBI Los Angeles Division’s Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Team for over nine years where she investigated crimes against children, including the online exploitation of children, juvenile sex trafficking, and child sex tourism. SSA Isom holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University, a master’s degree in Criminology from Indiana State University, and a master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Prior to her employment with the FBI, SSA Isom was a probation officer in Indiana for seven years and served as a volunteer Guardian Ad Litem on child neglect, child abuse, and custody cases.

Session Description:

During this course, participants will learn the characteristics of preferential child sex offenders and why/ how they commit their crimes. Through case examples, offender video clips, and research results, participants will better understand this unique population of offenders, their grooming behaviors, victim selection techniques and cognitive distortions they use to overcome internal conflict.
